A bizarre video at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York (USA) is making waves on the internet, recording a woman confidently presenting a passport from ‘Torenza’, a country that does not exist on any map or official record on Earth.

The clip, which has gone viral on TikTok and Instagram with millions of views, shows the tourist from Tokyo calmly explaining Torenza’s location in the Caucasus region during an immigration interview, leaving airport staff stunned.

“Authorities at JFK International Airport were shocked when a woman from Tokyo presented a passport issued by a country called Torenza. A country that, according to all known records, maps, and databases, simply doesn’t exist,” one commenter wrote.

The incident has sparked a “fever” of theories, from deepfake hoaxes to parallel universe glitches, amid growing concerns about misinformation generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“The viral story of the Torenza Passport Woman (a country that doesn’t exist) landing at JFK International Airport is raising concerns about misinformation from AI-generated news,” one user wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter) with the viral video.

However, the truth has been revealed. The video was AI-generated. The Elon Musk-backed fact-checking platform Grok verified this:

“This viral story about a woman at JFK with a ‘Torenza’ passport appears to be a hoax, inspired by the old urban legend ‘The Man from Taured’. There is no credible news source or official airport statement confirming it. This is likely AI-generated misinformation circulating on social media.”

Back in Time: Tokyo’s ‘Man from Taured’ Mystery

Notably, the incident is reminiscent of a similar incident that occurred in the summer of 1954 at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

Haneda Airport witnessed a strange incident at that time: A well-dressed white man, arriving on a flight from Europe, confidently presented a passport from a country no one had ever heard of – Taured.

The man insisted that Taured was a small sovereign state located between France and Spain, exactly where Andorra is today.

His passport looked genuine, complete with entry stamps from many real countries, including Japan. Speaking fluently in many languages, he claimed to be on a regular business trip, confusing customs officers who could not find any records of Taured anywhere in the world.

The authorities detained him overnight at a nearby hotel under heavy guard for investigation. But by the next morning, both the mysterious traveler and all his belongings had disappeared without a trace. There was no record of him leaving, and his hotel room remained locked from the inside. This story later became known as “The Man from Taured”.
